Exceptional Project Management support is essential for the successful completion of any project. SRM project managers employ the following five-step process to ensure that our clients’ objectives are met on time and within the determined cost structure:

  • Meet with customers to identify project milestones, establish a project schedule and define a target budget
  • Prepare planning documentation, such as White Papers, Work Breakdown Structures (WBSs) and Action Items (AI)
  • Perform comprehensive project risk assessments
  • Select the appropriate personnel and facility resources necessary to perform the required tasking
  • Enforce rigid Quality Assurance (QA) standards and closely monitor the status of project milestones to ensure that all technical and financial goals are met

Research, Development, Test and Evaluation

SRM Engineers are involved throughout each step of the Research, Development, Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) lifecycle; SRM Engineers research testing concepts, develop test procedures, prepare test sites, execute experiments and analyze test results for customers.

Technical Documentation

In addition to performing RDT&E functions, SRM Engineers are also adept at developing technical documentation. Forms of technical documentation routinely prepared by SRM Engineers include test plans, test reports, test proposals, mechanical manuals, white papers and patents.

Modeling and Simulation

SRM Engineers perform a variety of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) services for our customers. Utilizing sophisticated Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, SRM Engineers design two-dimensional drawings and three-dimensional mechanical models for our customers.

SRM’s team of experienced Welders, Machinists, Engineering Technicians and Painters provide a wide range of manufacturing, design and fabrication services. Utilizing various types of tooling, equipment, manual machines and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines, SRM personnel:

  • Perform various machining functions such as milling, turning, slotting, planning, boring, sawing and grinding.
  • Engrave metals and plastics.
  • Perform Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW) and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • Paint and powder coat customer projects.
  • Perform sheet metal manufacturing functions, such as drilling, bending, rolling, punching and shearing.

In addition to manufacturing parts for customers, SRM personnel also perform Non-Destructive Testing on the manufactured parts. Common NDT processes employed by SRM personnel include magnetic particle testing, ultrasonic testing, liquid penetrant testing and visual inspection.

SRM’s comprehensive Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) services span across all twelve (12) Integrated Product Support (IPS) Elements–facilitating the development of efficient, sustainable and reliable systems for our clients. ILS functions performed by SRM’s ILS Managers include:

  • Development and maintenance of Life Cycle Sustainment Plans (LCSPs), Maintenance Plans, Computer Resources Life Cycle Management Plans (CRLCMPs), Naval Training Support Plans (NTSPs), Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) Plans, and Software Development Plans (SDPs)
  • Execution of Reliability, Maintainability and Availability (RM&A) analyses
  • Preparation of Inventory Control Point (ICP) provisioning data
  • Performance of life cycle supportability analyses and obsolescence forecasting
  • Identification of Packaging, Handling, Storage, and Transportation (PHS&T) requirements and conduction of site surveys
  • Development of Maintenance Task Analyses (MTAs), Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals and Maintenance Demonstrations (M-Demos)
  • Execution of Level of Repair Analyses (LORA) and Acquisition Category (ACAT) Depot Repair Analyses
  • Preparation of Military Construction (MILCON) supporting documentation and warehouse layouts

SRM personnel are fully acquainted with a wide range of financial management tools, such as the Navy Enterprise Resource Planning (N-ERP) system and the Computer Optimized Batch Reconciliation Application (COBRA). SRM Financial Managers use these, and several other financial management systems, to perform a wide range of financial management tasks, such as:

  • Creating and tracking Network/Activity (NWA) numbers
  • Analyzing “Planned vs. Actual” costs
  • Calculating out year program/project funding for Latest Revised Estimates (LREs) and Annual Business Plans (ABPs) estimates
  • Performing detailed cost projections
  • Compiling and reviewing Task Books, Task Statements and Work Packages
  • Assisting in the acceptance of Reimbursable funds and Direct Cite funds Tracking and processing the receipt of funding documents
  • Preparing financial expenditure reports for program personnel and sponsors
  • Submitting/revising Task Plans, leading to the creation of project budgets for each Fiscal Year (FY)
  • Responding to data calls

SRM’s Technical Writing and Editing staff has the knowledge and experience necessary to prepare a wide range of technical documentation, including technical reports, technical memoranda, technical manuals, administrative publications, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, journal articles, conference papers, and directives. When developing technical documentation for their customers, SRM Technical Writers employ a three-phase review process to ensure the delivery of a complete, accurate, and polished final product:

Copy review for proper use of grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and language

Mechanical review to ensure required format compliance, including consistent style in headings and figures, prescribed reference citation style, appropriate use of symbols and acronyms, and sequential callout of figures, tables, and equations

Content review for coherence and logical organization; content editing and rewriting are accomplished in close collaboration with the author

Cataloging and Circulation

Routine circulation functions fulfilled by SRM Librarians include checking-in/out of library materials, performing Interlibrary Loan (ILL) transactions and sending document availability notifications to researchers. Librarians facilitate access to public materials such as books and journals as well as controlled reports.

Research and Reference

SRM employs state-of-the-art research methods to ensure timely and accurate responses to our customer’s research requests. In addition to guiding researchers in the use of online databases, such as IEEE's Xplore Digital Library and Information Handling Service's (IHS) Standards Expert, SRM Librarians interview Scientists, Engineers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather information for our customers.

Document Control

SRM Management Analysts perform a variety of Document Control functions, including:

  • Barcoding and tracking controlled materials
  • Facilitating delivery and transmission of controlled material between NUWC researchers and their external research partners
  • Destroying controlled materials

Planning and Management Support

SRM provides turn-key meeting support services to our clients. SRM personnel handle details such as tracking and registering meeting attendees; providing security authentication services; arranging high-quality catering; designing and hosting meeting web pages; and providing audio/visual support.

Documentation Support

SRM personnel document critical information that is discussed during meeting proceedings in a clear and accurate manner. Forms of meeting documentation routinely prepared by SRM personnel include transcriptions, meeting minutes, Action Items (AI) and meeting summary reports.

Multimedia Support

SRM’s talented team of Illustrators designs brochures, presentations, badges, signs and banners for local meetings and national conferences alike.

Contractor-Site Meeting Spaces

SRM offers the use of our state-of-the-art conference room to all of our customers. SRM's conference room is equipped with government-compatible video teleconferencing (VTC) systems and is capable of housing both classified and unclassified meetings.

Configuration Management plays a key role in maintaining the functional and physical integrity of our clients’ hardware and software programs. Through our regulated Configuration Management processes, SRM’s Configuration Management Specialists:

  • Establish hardware/software infrastructure models
  • Maintain document traceability throughout the life-cycle of a hardware/software development project
  • Create top-to-bottom breakdowns of source codes, software builds, Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), waivers and deviations
  • Identify Hardware Configuration Items (HCIs) and Software Configuration Items (SCIs)
